IndiGo Flight From Ahmedabad Catches Fire Just Before Takeoff
Panic and chaos unfolded at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport when an IndiGo flight, preparing for takeoff, suddenly caught fire, forcing an emergency evacuation and leaving passengers shaken and terrified. The shocking incident occurred just moments before the aircraft was set to lift off the runway, raising serious concerns about flight safety and emergency response protocols.
The flight, reportedly bound for Bengaluru, had already begun taxiing on the runway when passengers and crew noticed flames and smoke emerging from one of the engines. According to eyewitnesses onboard, there was a loud noise followed by vibrations, after which the cabin began to fill with the smell of burning. People started panicking as the crew rushed to assess the situation. Fortunately, the pilots immediately aborted the takeoff and brought the aircraft to a halt.
An emergency evacuation was swiftly carried out. All passengers were instructed to use the emergency exits and slides. Within minutes, airport fire and rescue teams arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames before they could spread further. Though there were no serious injuries reported, a few passengers sustained minor bruises and shock-related symptoms during the evacuation process. Medical teams at the airport provided immediate assistance.

IndiGo, one of India’s largest and most trusted low-cost airlines, released a statement confirming the incident and attributing the fire to a possible technical malfunction in the engine. They have grounded the aircraft for a full inspection and investigation. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause and whether safety protocols were fully followed.
Passengers, while grateful for their lives being saved, voiced strong concerns over the terrifying ordeal. Videos of smoke coming from the plane and panicked passengers fleeing have gone viral on social media, sparking a wider discussion on the need for stricter safety checks and improved aircraft maintenance.
The incident could have ended in tragedy, but thanks to the quick response of the flight crew and airport emergency services, disaster was narrowly avoided. It was a night no one onboard will forget — a grim reminder of how quickly things can go wrong and how crucial it is for airlines to maintain the highest safety standards at all times.
